Secrets. Lies. Betrayal.
Beyond This Moment is an exciting, moving tale of a young woman, Molly Whitcomb, who is forced to leave all she knows and cares for in the world. Her life, her esteemed position as Professor of Romance Languages at a University. All because of one mistake.
I LOVED Beyond This Moment! Another one of Tamera Alexander’s best! Timber Ridge and how it felt to be a woman in that time in history comes to life, the characters are solid and written with heart, and Molly’s struggles (both spiritually and emotionally) are so much more than just words on a page.
Molly Whitcomb is a compelling character. I felt everything she felt as she tried to hide her terrible secret beneath lie after lie after lie… we both knew it would catch up with her, but she felt she had no other choice – as we all do when we’re justifying doing something wrong. Molly finds herself having to face some very painful consequences and has a hard time seeing how God could ever bring good out of her mistakes. I found this thought-provoking and can definitely relate. We can’t always just “move on” when our actions hurt others as well as ourselves.
Another underlying theme is forgiveness. Can we learn to forgive ourselves and accept God’s forgiveness even when others in this world treat us with scorn?
Molly’s relationship with Sheriff James MacPherson is complex and very realistic, which is a refreshing change in a sea of silly romances. Sorry, I’m married – I know relationships are complicated and can’t help but roll my eyes when I read some romances. I’m pleased to be able to say that there is nothing shallow about Molly and James’ relationship. Though I did want to grab and shake Molly and James at times. ;-)
So are you ready for a compelling, faith-growing historical adventure? Then find this book and read it! And while you’re at it, read the Fountain Creek Chronicles by Tamera Alexander, another five-star series by the same author, especially Revealed (which I consider the best in the series, and can be read by itself).
