I love to read. I love to read reviews on books I might want to read. I love to write about what I read. Is there a word for this craziness?

Here’s today’s Booking Through Thursday challenge:

What was the last book you bought?

Hmm, for the baby a Veggie Tales board book (only $1 at our library bookstore!). For myself… good grief, I’ve been winning books but haven’t bought any in awhile. I almost bought an older used copy of Rebecca from the library bookstore the other day. Last purchased book was probably the last Harry Potter book (which I pre-ordered).

Name a book you have read MORE than once

Um. I re-read the Anne of Green Gables series every year… And I love the Harry Potter series. The Twilight series (Stephenie Meyer). Francine Rivers’ The Mark of the Lion series. Yeah, I like to re-read. lol I want to re-read The Host by Stephenie Meyer now…

Has a book ever fundamentally changed the way you see life? If yes, what was it?

Yes, I was greatly helped by Calm My Anxious Heart by Linda Dillow. I’m the type of person who overanalyzes and makes myself miserable worrying – or I have been in the past. God has really done a number on me over the last few years, though, and I find myself changing the way I think. Some things from this book that really helped me:

It has been well-said that no man ever sank under the burden of the day. It is when tomorrow’s burden is added to the burden of today that the weight is more than a man can bear. Remember God begs you to leave the future to Him and to mind the present.

Worry is like a rocking chair; it will give you something to do but it won’t get you anywhere.

The beginning of anxiety is the end of faith. The beginning of true faith is the end of anxiety. – George Muller

How do you choose a book? eg. by cover design and summary, recommendations or reviews

All of the above – but more reviews than cover design, and sometimes the summary is way off!

Do you prefer Fiction or Non-Fiction?

Fiction, generally. I do read non-fiction occasionally, though (memoirs, historical books).

What’s more important in a novel – beautiful writing or a gripping plot?

Well, the writing style is really important to me. A book can have a great plot but it’s ruined for me if the writing is bland.

Most loved/memorable character (character/book)

Anne of Green Gables

Which book or books can be found on your nightstand at the moment?

Fossil Hunter by John B. Olson, the amplified Bible, and I’m listening to Northanger Abbey right now for the Go Gothic Challenge at Austenprose.

What was the last book you’ve read, and when was it?

These Boots Weren’t Made for Walking by Melody Carlson two days ago, and I’m almost done with Jane Eyre.

Have you ever given up on a book half way in?

Yeah, I don’t usually make myself finish a book if I’m not enjoying it – sometimes it’s just my mood and I can go back and try again later. The last one I gave up on was DragonSpell by Donita K. Paul. I reeeeeally wanted to like that one because I normally love dragon books… I just can’t seem to get into it! I think it’s my mood, though. I want to buy it and try again another time.

  • Vegies Tales are great!

I used to read cover to cover; I was driven! But now I’ve recently decided that life is too short to waste my valuable reading time.

    Come see my answer.

  • Yep – Veggie tales are big in my household. I have the fossil hunter on my wishlist right now. Hope to get to it soon.

    Great answers. Had fun playing.
