DIY Sewing for Your Baby’s Nursery (Tutorial Roundup Part 1)
Crafts & Tutorials, Fun Stuff — By Lindsey on July 17, 2010 at 1:22 pmI have great plans for my nursery now that I’m teaching myself to sew. It’s exciting! I mean, have you seen all of the adorable fabric out there? I know that I could make exactly what I want for much cheaper than it would cost to buy a lower quality nursery set. Getting all the matching odds and ends is pricey. Here are some tutorials I intend to follow to make our nursery beautiful … enjoy! And let me know in a comment if any of them inspire you!
How to make your own crib dust ruffle (left) – Sew4Home has a great tutorial!
And an appliqued dust ruffle for your crib! This tutorial can be found at Kojo Designs.
Smile and Wave has a great tutorial on how to make soft baby blocks like these (left)!
Cover your glider with designer fabric! A complete tutorial can be found at Lil Blue Boo.
Prudent Baby has two great tutorials on making your own pack ‘n play sheets (left) and crib sheets (right)!
We can’t forget swaddlers! Swaddlers were lifesavers with my first baby and I have no doubt I’ll want them with my second, too. These are two types of swaddlers. The snuggler (left) includes a printable pattern at Craft and the DIY Swaddle Blanket (right) tutorial can be found at Prudent Baby.
I LOVE these crib bumpers (left)! Tutorial on how to make them yourself can be found at Sew4Home.
Cover a plain bathroom step stool with lovely fabric – tutorial at Prudent Baby!
Storage in the nursery is a necessity – wouldn’t it be wonderful to have such a cute storage system? Well, you can make it yourself with this tutorial found at U-Create!
Doodle has a wonderful tutorial on how to make a minky tag blankie. So making one!
I have more to share but don’t want this to get too long so I’ll put the rest of the tutorials in another post. :)
Till next time!

Haha, I can’t believe I said “pimp up the nursery” – so funny! I never say that kind of stuff. I changed it, lol.
We need to get together and have a sewing party… after I buy up Etsy’s designer fabric! hahahaha

Thanks for this! I haven’t sewed ANYTHING for my baby yet, and he’s 10 months old now. I just ordered a bunch of Alexander Henry Blue Zoo fabric and I didn’t have any solid plans of what to do with it, but now I’ve got at least a few ideas!
I LOVE Alexander Henry fabric! The Blue Zoo is adorable – if I find out in August I’m having a boy I want to order some and make some bibs/burp cloths. That would be so cute in a nursery, too!
I would love to see anything you decide to make!
I would LOVE to be able to sew anything! Great post, it gives me hope that it may be worth it to try my hand at sewing one more time!

You definitely should! There are so many helpful tutorials and videos that can help us through the hard parts of teaching ourselves to sew. :)
I really like all these ideas. Unfortunately, I’m less than crafty and surely wouldn’t be able to pull any of these off LOL!
