Drink Your Veggies (and Love It!)

I recently discovered the awesomeness that is drinking your veggies through Angela of Oh She Glows. She started the Green Monster Movement, encouraging people everywhere to try making green smoothies for a healthy boost. I tried it and now find myself craving them even! Whats great about these drinks is that you can tweak the ingredients to make it perfect for you in taste and substance. For example, I like to add fruits in mine. Just adding a banana and frozen berries covers up the taste of the veggies completely I love it!

Angela shares a list of green smoothie recipes to inspire us. I looked at them all and then made up my own favorite smoothie recipe. Thats what I want to share today. 🙂

Im going to list ingredients and give you approximations when it comes to how much I put in. It really depends on how much I have and what I feel like the most at the time.

Ingredients:

Fresh spinach (about 1 cup, sometimes 2)
Banana (1)
Plain yogurt (1/2 cup)
Frozen berries (I use a mix from Costco about 1/2 cup)
Apple (half)
Rice Milk or Orange Juice (3/4 cup)
Carrots (1 or 2 whole)
Cucumber
Honey (if you need a sweetener)
Ice (4 or 5 cubes)

Sometimes I also add protein drink powder even chocolate is fine.

How To:

First, make sure you add enough milk or orange juice (or water) that its not too thick. You want it about frappe freeze thickness. It will be hard to drink if you dont add enough liquid.

Throw all the ingredients in the blender and blend! Thats it. 🙂

Note: Even my 3-year-old loves this! Definitely give it a try. 🙂

Have you ever made a green smoothie? What are your favorite ingredients?
