SO Easy Appliqued Tee or Onesie Photo Craft Tutorial (With Linky)
Crafts & Tutorials, Fun Stuff — By Lindsey on July 16, 2010 at 12:00 amI can’t believe how easy this is. I love this type of creative outlet because it’s SO FAST – you’re done with the entire project in about half an hour or less. That’s my type of project. ;-)
What You’ll Need:
Fusible Backing (I used Wonder Under with much success) (about $3)
Scrap fabric (you can find some great scraps or fat quarters on Etsy)
Sewing scissors
Iron
T-shirts or onesies (pretty much anything)
Tutorial:
Note: Make sure you wash all fabrics and clothing before continuing! You don’t want anything to shrink.
1. Search google images for clipart and print, or create your own applique design. Cut it out.
2. Trace around the cut-out onto the fusible webbing.
3. Find a cute fabric scrap and iron it and the t-shirt or onesie you’ll be applying the applique to.
4. Iron the fusible webbing onto the WRONG (not-pretty) side of the fabric, following the instructions. Mine took 3-5 seconds. The rough side of the fusible webbing down on the fabric.
5. Cut out your shape with sewing scissors.
6. Peel off the fusible backing. It’s ready to iron on!
7. Position your applique onto the tee or onesie where you want it and place a damp cloth on top. Iron at wool setting for 10 seconds or so (follow your specific fusible web instructions).
8. All finished! You can now stitch around this if you want, or use Fray Check. Your choice. :)
Some other appliqued tank tops I did – the bird was my favorite, though. :)

I love this idea for creating a fun, adorable, personally unique shirt. (I personally don’t have the creative talent to come up with these ideas, but I do get inspired to try new crafts from creative minds.) I learned about your blog from Life is a SandCastle. I’m so glad to get introduced to your blog, and now I’m happily following. Have a wonderful weekend!

Adorable! I’ve also used pre-cut felt shapes for these. I found a bag of super cute rainforest ones at a garage sale one year or they are really inexpensive at most craft stores.
What a great idea! I forgot to mention that if you find a cute fabric you love with animal shapes or flowers that are big enough, you can cut them out and applique them on, too. :)
This is such a easy explained tutorial! I am going to have to try it out sometime! I love the little bird and doggy! Your so creative…now don’t become a fabric junky… lol

That’s one of my future projects I’m planning on doing. :) I have done the first letter of the child’s name for a friend’s baby shower. She loved it!

What type of stitch would you use around the edges of the applique?
