I’ve wanted to find Emma a doll she can interact with ever since she started talking. I’ve had my eye on the Little Mommy dolls by Fisher-Price especially because they not only have realistic and cute faces (hey, not every doll has a cute face!), they also have themes and talents. You really want to collect them all once you’ve been introduced to one: some play peek-a-boo, others crawl, some are soft newborns. I finally was able to get Emma a Little Mommy doll recently through Mattel and am delighted to be able to share our thoughts on it with you! I’m hoping to be able to share enough information on it to give you a good idea of whether or not it would be a good gift for the little girl in your life. :)
When I received this doll in the mail, she was happily jabbering away in her box at every bump of the box. If you decide to order this doll and want to keep it a secret, make sure your children are well-occupied when the UPS man knocks at your door because it will be pretty hard to keep a secret otherwise! I had to tear into the box and get her out of the package before I found the place on her back to turn her off.
And yes, there is an “off” switch. Something you’ll need to know about come bedtime, especially if your little girl wants to take her baby to bed with her. This little doll is ready to play at all times but you probably will want your kids to actually sleep at night. ;-)
Seriously, this doll blew me away when I saw it in action! First of all, I was relieved to see that she doesn’t say the same few phrases over and over and over until we’ve all gone crazy. She has over 50 phrases in that little head of hers and every once in awhile I hear something I haven’t heard before while Emma plays with her. Also, she’s sensitive to how she’s being played with and says the right phrases at the appropriate time. From “I did a flip!” when flipped over to sighing and saying, “Night night, mommy” and beginning to softly snore when being put to bed – it makes playtime more fun! Another of my favorites is when she is rocked she says, “I like it when you rock me, mommy!”. So cute.
See her in action…
I’ve never seen Emma so… ACTIVE with a doll or toy before! She was really getting into playtime with dolly and was encouraged by what the doll was saying.
More phrases I’ve heard:
“I’m going to hop like a bunny! Hop, hop! Hoppity-hop!”
“I love to dance!”
“Sometimes I like to go upside down!”
“I like to fly in the sky!”
“Let’s play, mommy!”
I like to roll over!
“Sing me a lullaby, mommy…”
“I can do a somersault!”
This dolly is so detailed – her eyes are beautiful and lifelike, her cheeks painted flushed, and everything painted immaculately. She’s beautiful! And I have no complaints whatsoever about the talking side, either – Fisher-Price did an amazing job with the sensitivity of her reactions to how she’s played with and appropriate phrases at appropriate times. I really appreciate that. Could this dolly be better? I would love it if they had made her eyes close when she lays down and “sleeps” since that would have made her even more lifelike. Also, her shoes aren’t removable, they’re painted on. But I haven’t heard any complaints from my daughter, and those obviously aren’t “cons”. In fact, I can’t think of anything I don’t like about this doll. Therefore, I recommend it!
