You HAVE to head over to the Masterpiece website and watch this – the entire first season of this miniseries is available to watch for free right now!  You have until February 22nd to watch it, but I would get started now.  It is SO good.  You can also get it on Netflix or buy it on for only $16.99!  I found it at Costco for $14.99 so if you have one near you it’s the best price I’ve seen.  :)

Okay, I have to share some images… because I really need to convince you it’s AWESOME and you should go watch it.  :)

These are the three sisters.  I love Sybil (left), she’s so cool!  Modern and interested in women’s rights… but not overly so.  I mean, she’s not ready to go chain herself to some building thankfully.  But she’s really sweet and a great character.  Edith (right) and Mary (middle) are forever at odds, to the point of me gasping at what they do to each other.  But you can’t help but be intensely interested in their plights and … you can hardly blame them.  If I had had as much pressure to find a husband as they have I’d probably be a little nuts, too.

This is their mother.  She’s so kind and diplomatic with everyone.  Except for the whole “You must marry soon” thing she’s doing to her daughters she’s awesome.

This is a closeup of Mary, who is the eldest and has the most pressure to marry well – or marry someone (for reasons you will have to watch the movie to find out about).  She has the most gorgeous dresses in this movie!

My favorite scene with Sybil.  Her “modern” outfit which is truly breathtaking… both because of its beauty and because it is a split skirt!  *GASP*

Their grandmother, a very popular actress… and boy is she a formidable character!  Certainly not afraid to speak her mind.

Yep, there’s no shortage of drama going on downstairs, either!  Both sweet and devious characters, and, of course, love is blooming…

My favorite characters, Anna and Bates… I won’t say anything about them but I’m sure you’ll love them as much as I do!

Have I convinced you yet?  As a last attempt, here’s a preview video…

Have you seen it yet?  What did you think?

  • It took me a little bit to get into it, but I enjoyed watching this. I was totally shocked at the ending! I can’t wait to see the 2nd series.

  • I loved this series! Saw that Maggie Smith was in it and decided to watch and after the first show it was on my DVR to record immediately. Funny my daughter came in last week when I was watching the last one..and of course I had to stop the recording a dozen times to catch her up..but after we watched it she said this is better than Glee, Mom. Coming from a gleek tween that’s pretty high praise. Now I need to order from Amazon so she can watch it all..

  • is this the second post you’ve done on this? or maybe it was on another blog. either way i think you’ve totally convinced me to check this show out!! i love that time period!!

  • I’ve been watching for some time and just love it. I especially like they run it late on Monday night/Tuesday morning for when I’m not sleeping. Just saw the last episode with the tele installed. And eye surgery? for the cook. Promiscuity, plotting, verge of change. Could rival Dallas, if you know what that is, Very cool. Thanks for the newsletter info so I can catch the first part of the season!!

  • That looks worth watching just for the costumes alone! I love that period – divine!
