This little dude is 2 1/2. He has no interest whatsoever in sitting. Like ever.
So I’ve been collecting ideas for busy bags and things to do to keep him occupied (and learning) while I’m working with Emma. You can follow my Pinterest board, Keep Your Toddler busy While Homeschooling if you want! I have come across some really awesome ideas. My favorites are the pool noodle and sponge blocks – Isaac loves building.
I know, Isaac is kind of past toddler stage. Was he ever actually “toddling”? Oh, I guess so. At 9 months. It’s been awhile! Anyway, he’s kind of between toddler and preschooler, I guess, but he is definitely not ready for “preschool” yet. At least the sit-down type of preschool I’m thinking of. :)
He does like to paint… and hey, he’s finally actually painting in focused lines rather than splashing some paint on a paper and then throwing the paint and the paintbrush and everything on the floor! Sweet progress.
Magformers are a FAVORITE. They were actually a Christmas present for him (or was it birthday?) but he hasn’t shown much interest until now. Emma definitely has, though – she loves to see what she can build with these! Legos and Magformers will be our friend when school starts. :)
As long as the weather is nice enough, we can always do some school outside (and of course we’ll be doing nature study, too) – Isaac loves to swing. He runs for this swing the minute we get outside and has been known to swing for long periods of time. Yes, the swingset is our friend, too.
There are rare moments when Isaac wants to be doing “school” while Emma works on her handwriting or a random fun worksheet. If he asks, I give him this dry erase numbers book. Here he’s counting the balloons – “1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6789101112131415100!!!!!” ;-)
I’m sure a lot of moms use the computer and apps to keep their toddlers busy but Isaac has a pretty short screen time attention span. I’m not sure if this is a good thing or not! ;-)
How do you keep your young ones busy while the older ones are doing school?
