Twist & Learn Busy Bus

Today I want to share our experience with the Twist & Learn Busy Bus, a shape-sorting, twist-and-learn musical push toy for older babies and toddlers.

I knew Emma would like this as soon as I saw it – she’s all about vehicles right now, even more so than dolls!  She knows the difference between a car, truck, bus, train, and tractor, and is ever on the lookout for another vehicle to identify.  Also, across from where we live there’s a bus stop and I’ve explained to her before that different people are getting on that bus to get where they need to go.  This toy is a great way for her to learn about that in a hand’s-on way – though admittedly the passengers in real life aren’t climbing in through the top of the bus.  ;-)  So in a more simplified kind of way – which is what babies like anyway.

What Emma is Learning…

I like that this toy has so many features.  Emma is reinforcing her shapes (circle, square, triangle, and hexagon) and using her imagination with this toy.  There are many different types of people on the shapes and she can twist the shapes to mix up their outfits.  The people on the shapes represent many different types of working people including a doctor, a painter, a policewoman, and construction worker for example.  On the top of the bus is a button she can push to listen to the tune of “The Wheels on the Bus” – and this is a button she’s pushed at least 500 times in the last few weeks, lol.  She loves music, so this was a terrific addition.  The “people” shapes are easily removed by pushing the handle down – it lifts up the people so she can grab them.

Pros & Cons…

The only thing I don’t love about this toy is the fact that the people can come apart, meaning the head, torso, and legs all can be separated into smaller pieces.  I’m not sure what the reasoning was, but so far it’s just been a pain because they don’t snap back together easily enough for my 2 1/2-year-old to always do it herself so she brings the pieces to me to “fix” for her.  This is just a small dislike, though, and isn’t anything that would stop me from purchasing it for one of my children or someone else’s.  The pieces aren’t small enough to be a choking hazard, and I don’t think younger babies and toddlers would be able to get the pieces apart anyway.

Final Thoughts

I think this is a great toy for babies and toddlers and especially love the fact that it grows with your child.  The musical aspect, shape-sorting fun, different twistable characters, and the fact that the bus is a big push toy are terrific features!  Definitely worth the price of $19.99.
