Listen to Audiobooks on iTunes for Free! (LibriVox)

Imagine my delight when I discovered that by using the search term LibriVox in the iTunes Store, I came across the free audiobook motherload! These books are read by volunteers and then released into the public domain so that anyone can listen to them.

I am SO excited about this! I read nonstop as a child and teenager, but once I got married and my daughter was born, I found that my time to read was almost nonexistent. Gone were the late-night reading binges I drop into bed at 10:30 p.m. and fall asleep immediately. Audiobooks are perfect for a busy mom like me who feels guilty sitting on the couch and reading when there is so much to do.

A book Ive always wanted to read but havent been able to get through yet is The Story Girl by L.M. Montgomery. Well, yesterday I started listening to The Story Girl on LibriVox and I am LOVING it! Each chapter is read by a different person, which might get on some peoples nerves, but it doesnt bother me a bit. The people who read are generally very good at it, though I do have some favorites. One of them was a girl with an Australian accent. 🙂

Anyway, I got through 16 chapters yesterday while I was cooking, cleaning, and doing general house stuff like that. The time simply flew, and before I knew it I had cleaned everything up and made a delicious potato salad while listening. It was awesome.

There are so many great books to pick from including but not limited to:

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
All of the Anne books by L.M. Montgomery
The Bible
War and Peace
White Fang by Jack London

There are literally thousands in their catalog. Search it here. Or search for Librivox and the title of the book you want in iTunes.

Other Ways to Listen:

You can listen to the books as podcasts on iTunes or any podcatcher OR download the files in zip format and listen to them on your media player. I prefer iTunes because you can search and obtain the books easily in the iTunes program.

So what are you waiting for? Head on over to LibriVox.org and explore!

I would love to know what books you plan on listening to. 🙂
