When I think of doing a literary update for you guys, I’m kind of overwhelmed. Why? Because I have so many books to review at the moment and I’m trying TRYING to get myself organized! It’s a good thing, though – I want to be more organized anyway. It should be my book-related New Year’s Resolution. Should be. :-)
This would not have been a problem at all before my daughter was born, but now things are so busy! And Emma has recently learned to crawl purposefully (speedily) AND pull herself up to a standing position so that everything that was safely out of reach a few weeks ago is now a target for her. And here I thought her becoming more mobile would be a relief! Reality check. ;-)
I found Blue Heart Blessed by Susan Meissner at the library and have been reading it between my review books. I had to find other books by Susan after reading the wonderful, can’t-get-it-out-of-your-head The Shape of Mercy! So far it’s great, kind of like chick lit but somehow better, deeper. Maybe because it delves deeper into Daisy’s feelings. I’m fascinated with the letters she writes in her journal – she pours her vulnerable heart out to Hazel, and Hazel writes back to her with all the wisdom she can muster. Hazel is, of course, Daisy’s more sensible side. Anyway, better save this for the review. ;-) Just let me assure you that it’s good.
Kiss. I just started this and so far it’s amazing! Not that I expected anything else. I’m about four chapters in and already I’m deeply emotionally involved. There’s really something special about Ted Dekker’s books, have you noticed? I feel like I’m at the theater when I read them. Think big screen, amazing sound effects and music, and darkness – no distractions. It’s just you and the characters. You are part of the characters. That’s how it feels to me. If you haven’t read Ted Dekker, you should. You’re so missing out.
Up next will be The Red Siren by M.L. Tyndall. I’m really looking forward to this one!
Finally, here are the books I received in the mail last week:
