Mommy Meltdown Prevention Tips

Over at 3 Kids and Us, Cat brought up mommy mental meltdowns. Weve all had them, especially when our kids are very young and were being stretched beyond capacity to be super mom. We kind of feel like Elastigirl only without the power to stretch (ow!).

Reading Cats post made me think. Mommies need to take time to relax once in awhile. We think we have to go, go, go but its important that we wind down, too!

*Disclaimer: None of this has to do with Cat, but all mommies in general! lol Just didnt want anyone to think Im preaching now THAT would be funny. Its just good advice to everyone, including myself! 😉

Okay, back to meltdowns. When it comes to mommy meltdowns, prevention is key. So I started to think of the things that make me feel good, things I do for me and not for everyone else. And Im hoping youll share some of the ways that you wind down, too!

Lindseys list of things she has to do to keep her blood pressure normal:

  • Take time to read a fun book a few times a week. (Right now Im reading Veiled Freedom by Jeanette Windle yes, STILL but coming up next is Loves Pursuit by Siri Mitchell, one Im really excited about!)
  • Get exercise, whether its EA Sports Active or a walk outside with Emma in her stroller.
  • I know a lot of people love their baths to wind down. I dont take baths much but I do like a nice hot shower every morning. Theres no way I would be sane without that. Starting the morning right is so necessary!
  • Get enough sleep! I can just hear the laughter now but seriously, when the kids nap you can nap. If you need the sleep, sleep! Dont try to get everything done while the kids are napping and sacrifice your sleep.

I know its hard to make time for these things, but if you can get some help from your husband (our husbands generally see its in everyones best interest that you dont have a meltdown, lol) or even just give yourself some slack and not put so much on your to-do list, you might find it helps a lot! I really do have a lot to say about how much pressure we as moms put on ourselves to be perfect and do everything for our family (I am supermom!), but that comes later in a separate post. 😉

So tell me, what do you do to wind down and prevent mommy meltdown?

Thank you sooo much for sharing this post! 🙂
