So I saw my doctor yesterday, just a regular prenatal checkup.  It was the first time I had met this doctor – she’s the one I chose to see me through the pregnancy but since we switched to this hospital/clinic so late in my pregnancy I really hadn’t had a chance to see her yet.  I’ve seen nurses and midwives but not her – until yesterday.  And I was really happy with my first impression because she’s super nice and very “real”.

Well, she did an exam to see if there was any progress.  After my last exam in labor and delivery a week ago, I was told  I was 50% effaced and 1 1/2 cm dilated.  There was some definite progress since the baby is reeeally low (she kept saying “Wow, he is LOW”) and I’m now 80-90% effaced.  I’m still only 2 cm dilated, but she said they don’t pay a lot of attention to that because it can go fast.  She thinks I might have the baby in the next week!

Here’s a diagram to put that effacement into perspective…

Good grief, no wonder my pelvic bones hurt SO bad! Course in that picture it looks like a toddler is being carried, LOL.

I know I could be stuck at this place for a long time so I’m trying not to get my hopes up too much, but I sincerely hope that won’t be the case!  Anyway, I wanted to give you a head’s up because I have a lot of giveaways and things going on on the blog right now.  I thought I would have more time since my due date isn’t officially until January 19, but if I disappear for awhile just know I haven’t dropped off the face of the earth and I’ll be back as soon as I can to draw winners or catch up on whatever I need to.  It’s really hard to focus on anything but the fact that I’m about to give birth, though – I’m sure you can understand.  :)  I’m a little nervous but more excited than anything!

  • How exciting! Best wishes for 2011!

  • Yay! Hoping you find some comfort in the upcoming week(s)!

  • Oy vey! That picture makes it look SO uncomfortable! LOL! How’s it feel walking around with a toddler between your knees? ;)

I hope it comes really soon for you. I know this pregnancy has worn you out! If there’s anything I can do to help you while you’re away, just let me know.

Good luck! Can’t wait to hear the good news!

    • Thanks, Angie – you are sooo sweet! :) I know I’ve been whiny, but everyone has been so nice and supportive. I guess we all feel whiny at the end of our pregnancy. :)

  • Never knew what effaced meant thanks for the info =)

  • Wow, very close!! I hope your discomfort is over quickly & safely :) so good to hear you have a good feeling about your doc! I would be a tad worried myself if I had never ‘saw’ them before. hugs!

  • Woot! Thought maybe you’d have the first new year baby but I guess not lol :)

This last time around I went to the Dr. whining and almost crying that I was ready to have the baby already. He checked me and NOTHING. Not effaced, dilated, nothing! I almost burst into tears since he had done an ultrasound and told me the baby was estimated at 10lbs a few weeks earlier. The ladies at the front desk go “girl it can happen anytime! it might even happen tonight” and I was just like “yeah right!”.

Go home, abt 2pm contractions start up every 15 min apart… 2:30am my water breaks.. what do you know! Btw, mine hadn’t moved down at all (my first one didn’t either).. anyway, 4 pushes and he was out and that was at 9lb 7oz.

Soooooo.. what I’m getting at is.. maybe yours is going to go super fast! Hope your bag is packed! lol

    • Nobody has estimated my baby’s weight yet… I’m scared! lol I hope it happens like that, that’s amazing that you had no progress but still went into labor! I know that “checks” aren’t necessary and they just tend to drive moms crazy I think, LOL. Knowing you’re close but not HOW close is maddening! Last night I woke up three times with contractions an hour apart but then… NOTHING. It was maddening. I keep having pretty intense contractions but they’re irregular and don’t stick. Hoping this means I’m getting close, though – I’m so tired of not getting any sleep! (Not that I expect to get a lot after the baby comes, but then at least I have a BABY, lol)

And yes my bag is packed! :)
