We ♥ Silver Dolphin Books (Children’s Musical Activity Books – Review)

If you have young children, you know how much they love interactive books. Im talking about pop-up books, touch-n-feel books, and books with buttons you can push to make sounds theyre always well-received in our household! In fact, I confess to feeling a certain childlike wonder myself when it comes to pop-up books. Talk about a book coming to life in a whole new way!

Silver Dolphin Books is one of those places you should be stalking if youre as delighted by these types of books as I am. Youll find pop-up books, sing-a-long books, sticker books, and activity books of all types for all ages even books that can be read and then taken apart and built into 3-D scenes! There are many favorite classic tales and well-known stories and songs like Peter Pan, Noahs Ark, and The Wheels on the Bus can be found all enhanced in some special way.

Emma and I were pleased to be able to review two books from Silver Dolphin. The first I want to tell you about is Sounds of the Wild: Birds. This magnificent book is both a pop-up book and a sounds book. Each time you turn a page you come to a scene filled with different species of birds, and the noises you would hear at that scene fill your ears. For instance, at a lake as seen below:

The sounds heard are splashing and rustling feathers and a myriad of different bird calls. The book also explains a little bit about these birds and why they like to live near the water. Other scenes include desert land, the tropical rainforest, the mountains, and more!

Emma was totally fascinated by the pop-up panoramas and bird sounds. Older children will enjoy trying to identify which bird is making which sound, and younger children are delighted with the brightly colored 3-D illustrations. You may want to note that the sounds play automatically as you turn the pages, theres no way to page through this book without hearing the sounds play. I think it would be great if they offered a way to turn the sounds off, but then I had a 3-year-old paging through the book over and over again. 😉 She loved the bird calls! I can tell you that it has held up well, though, and the sounds still work fine even after being enjoyed by a toddler at least 100 times.

This is a wonderful book and would make a great gift! You can purchase it for $16.95 here. Other books in the Sounds of the Wild series include Dinosaurs, Safari, Nighttime, Ocean, and Mythical Creatures.

The second book Emma and I received is Old MacDonald Had a Farm, a large musical board book for preschoolers.

This one has a button that your little one can push that then plays the well-loved song the book is named after so that they can listen to it while reading. This is another favorite for Emma she loves music and can sit for quite a long time singing the song and reading the book.

If you have a preschooler, I would definitely consider this or one of their other sing-a-long board books. Music is one of the few things that can induce my child to sit still for awhile and look at her books, so I find this to be a terrific combination. Its hardy and perfect for travel! You can buy it here for $12.95 at Silver Dolphin.

Im hoping to collect more of Silver Dolphins fantastic books! There are selections for all ages, not just the younger set. I recommend heading over there to browse their books by age and see what they have for your kids!
