Teaching Myself to Sew…

Crafts & Tutorials, Fun Stuff — By on June 27, 2010 at 9:39 pm

Although I looove crafts and creating in general and have been sharing sewing tutorials for awhile now, I’m a beginner myself when it comes to sewing.  I’ve only ever done smaller sewing projects as a teen, and I tended to let my mom do most of it.  You know, all the hard stuff.

But guess what?  My mom gave me her sewing machine (because she’s moving and because she loves me) and I’ve been teaching myself to sew the last few days!  I’ve had a blast with it, too.  I thought I might be too impatient, but I’m enjoying it so far.   :)

I attended a good friend’s baby shower today and I was hoping to be able to make her some nice gifts.  I made her two appliqued onesies – one with her little baby-to-be’s first initial on it and the other with a super cute tie on it.  I also sewed up two burp cloths with an adorable flannel animal fabric:

All in all I was happy with what I made for my friend – something personal and useful – and am happy with my first sewing projects as well!  Well, the two onesies weren’t stitched but I might take them back and stitch around the appliques for her for added stability.

Here are the FANTASTIC tutorials I followed online for each project…

I can’t wait to start another sewing project!
