Remember The Fox and the Hound?  This is one of the first Disney cartoons I remember watching, a total classic.  As a child, I was a lover of all things Disney and especially if it involved animals, so this was one I was fond of.  We didn’t own it, so I didn’t see it very often, but I remember it made a big impression on me and brought me to tears when I would watch it.  Just seeing the two friends grow up together as best friends and then realize they’re natural enemies when they grew up was a heartrending situation (especially to me as a child).

The Fox and the Hound 2 was completely new to me when I received this set on DVD, so I was very interested in seeing what they did with the story.  First of all, it’s considerably lighter in topic than the first one (nice) and there is a lot of music since it centers around Tod and Copper (as pups!) trying to join up with a traveling group of singing dogs, “The Singin’ Strays”.  We enjoyed it and found that the charm of the characters from the first movie carried through to this one.

Final Thoughts:

I was impressed with the quality of the movie – the picture is as clear as if it had just recently been released!  The only thing that differs is the charming painting-like background to the scenes.  I’m amazed at what they can do to restore old cartoons nowadays.  :)  This is a great combo, very worth adding to your Disney movie collection!
