The Secret of Moonacre is a Fantastic Family Fantasy! (Review)

I hope you and your kids (of any age) are ready for this beautiful tale The Secret of Moonacre. I just saw it and all I can say is wow! It is visually stunning, over-the-top imaginative, and just fun. I loved all of the actors and the story kept my attention for the entire duration of the movie. Verdict? I loved it!

Ill have to admit that having Ioan Gruffudd and a host of other favorite actors and actresses was a big reason that I decided I had to see it in the first place.

Ioan Gruffudd from Fantastic Four, King Arthur, & Horatio Hornblower

Also Tim Curry, Juliet Stevenson, and Natascha McElhone made this movie great.

But you need to hear the story. Its full of imagination, completely unpredictable, and really just the type of story I love. Apparently the whole movie is based on a book by Elizabeth Goudge called The Little White Horse J.K. Rowling is to have stated that it was her favorite book growing up!

Anyway, the storyline:

After 13-year-old Maria Merryweathers father dies, she is left orphaned and homeless, and is forced to leave her luxurious London home to go and live at the mysterious Moonacre Manor with Sir Benjamin (Gruffudd), an eccentric uncle she didnt know she had. Soon Maria finds herself in a crumbling moonlit world torn apart by a hatred borne of an ancient feud with the dark and sinister De Noir family. Maria discovers that she is the last Moon Princess and, guided by an unlikely mix of allies, she must unearth the secrets of her past before the 5000th moon rises and Moonacre disappears into the sea forever.

My Thoughts:

I thoroughly enjoyed The Secret of Moonacre! Filled with magic, moon princesses, unicorns and lions, and all sorts of amazing characters and creatures, I found the story charming and the visual effects gorgeous! It was truly a fairy tale come to life and is sure to fuel childrens imaginations.

I fell in LOVE with the bedroom she was given in the movie! And the costumes. So pretty!

Its something both boys and girls can enjoy, and has a nice blend of romance, danger, mystery, and magic.

Oh, and humor! This nanny of Marias was hilarious!

The acting did feel a bit rocky at times, mainly due to budget I think but it didnt detract from the beauty or character of the movie at all.

Note that there is a scene of kissing. lol

Like I said, I loved it! This one is a keeper. 🙂 I think if you or your children enjoy fantasy or even just a young girls story, youll be happy with The Secret of Moonacre.
