I can imagine the shock of entering this cold and breezy world after being warm and secure in mommy’s womb for 9 months. Have you considered what it must feel like? I mean, sure, we’ve all been there – but no one remembers it. Thank God! :) Like I said, though, I can imagine it and have a lot of empathy for a new baby’s cries as he or she gets used to the new surroundings and climate. The nearest thing I can compare it to is having to leave a huddle of blankets and your spouse’s warmness on a cold winter morning. Brrrr! It’s not a fun transition.
So what can we do to help babies transition from womb to world smoothly?
I recommend that every new mommy have a Woombie in her off-to-the-hospital bag before giving birth. This little cocoon is a wonderful invention! I know, I know. Moms have been swaddling their newborns for centuries – but it has never been this easy. Just zip, close, and baby is secure! And to be honest, I never did catch on to the method of swaddling a baby in a regular blanket. Call me stupid, but I just can’t do it! Not in a way that my wriggly babies can’t kick off anyway. That’s why I LOVE the Woombie.
Babies love to be swaddled, and if you start early it’s a great experience. I swaddled Emma for as long as I possibly could, then moved on to sleep sacks. I like how the Woombie is is kind of like a snug sleep sack, keeping baby’s body warmth close and giving him the same secure feeling he had in the womb, yet still having a soft stretch so that he can move around if needed.
For those few babies who hate to be swaddled for one reason or another, this style of swaddling might be just what they need! Babies feel safe but not confined in the Woombie.
A Mom’s Thoughts…
I received a yellow convertible Woombie for review in the newborn size. I love this style of Woombie because it can be converted to free baby’s arms!
There are snaps on the side where baby’s arms go through, making it a cinch to wear either arms-free or with arms secure.
The closure at the neck and chin is soft and fuzzy, covers the zipper, and closes securely with velcro.
The two-way zipper makes quick diaper changing in the middle of the night less painful (for mommy).
The fabric is stretchy and soft, and comes in a beautiful banana cream color.
Final Thoughts: This is one of my favorite swaddlers! I’m already thinking about purchasing more in larger sizes so that I can keep baby Isaac swaddled as long as possible. I’m giving Woombie my full approval and recommendation! Purchase a convertible Woombie here for $28.99.
More From Woombie:
Check out all of the wonderful Woombie styles and colors available here. More of my personal favorites are their Leggies, which are made especially for riding in the car seat or swing, the Summer and Winter Woombies (thinner and thicker fabrics), and their organic Bamboo onesies which are only $6.00 right now! Woombies range anywhere from $26.99 – $28.99 with Clearance Woombies being only $12.00.
Woombie is generously offering to give one of you an Original Woombie in your choice of size!

I learned that swaddling helps prevents the Startle Reflex, caused by a immature nervous system. I knew that newborns liked being swaddled but wasn’t sure for the reason. My daughter would only sleep swaddled for the first few months.
