Make-Ahead Meals For Busy Moms Cookbook Review {Giveaway Closed}

I am so unorganized when it comes to making and preparing meals. Ive been a mom for 19 months, and I cannot believe I havent mastered this. But *sigh* I hate meal-planning. I tend to let myself become overwhelmed.

Strangely enough, though, I love to cook!

Im always on the lookout for a good cookbook, something to bring me out of my usual taco bake/same-old pasta/meatloaf/Im-so-desperate-Im-making-macaroni-and-cheese (with extra cheese) rut. So when Jane Doiron, author of Make-Ahead Meals for Busy Moms, contacted me about reviewing her popular cookbook, I agreed happily. The meal on the cover looks great, the sample recipes on her website looked doable, and Im all for make-ahead meals! Thats something I dont do much but I would love to have something prepared for those blah days. Oh, and Im a busy mom. Without a doubt.

My Thoughts

Make-Ahead Meals for Busy Moms actually surpassed my expectations! It starts out with some short, easy-to-skim-through and very helpful tips on freezing your meals and buying and preparing the ingredients.

The recipes are organized nicely into categories and include appetizers, main dishes, side dishes, soups, breakfast and brunch, and desserts.

What I like

The recipes themselves give you plenty of variety and dont stick too much with the same-old, same-old. If you have company over and want to fancy it up a bit without spending the whole day slaving over the stove, it would be easy to find something very nice in this cookbook. A few of my favorites are Italian Restaurant Chicken (the recipe on the cover), Panko Breaded Pork Medallions, and Crab Cakes. And you can still find the old favorites like Sloppy Joes, Chicken Enchiladas, and Hearty Chili.

I didnt find any of the recipes overwhelming to follow, and she gives instructions on the things you can do A Day Ahead to prepare for the recipe so there wont be too much to do all on one day.

Suggestions for Improvement

I would love to see full-color photos throughout the book, of course. It would also be nice if the book was bound so that it would lie flat on the counter while Im cooking. Those are things I look for in cookbooks generally, but other than that this is a fabulous book and worth buying.

Conclusion

Im loving this cookbook and am getting a lot of use out of it. There is a great variety of recipes and a very useful section full of helpful tips as well as an index of recipes and measurement equivalents. I think any mom would find this an asset to their cookbook collection!
